Slow internet connection? Here's why?

A cable cut in the Asia-Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) undersea submarine cable crippled Internet connection speed across the Asia-Pacific region.

PLDT, Globe, Smart and other local ISP are getting complaints from users due to slow connection speeds to sites hosted outside of the region. A Bayantel employee / mod even confirmed the problem over their support forum.

The cable fault was traced to segment 7 of the APCN2, which stretches between Shantou, China and Tanshui, Taiwan. The outage was traced to Typhoon Morakot, which hit the region over the weekend.

According to an advisory, Internet connection speeds are expected to return to normal late evening August 13.

Back in 2006, the APCN2 was taken out by a powerful earthquake in Taiwan. Internet access was severely affected in the Philippines and it took several weeks before normal Internet speed and connection was restored.
